NORTH KERRY LEAGUE DIVISION 2 SEMI FINAL (13-a-side)
St. Senans 2-14 Knocknagoshel/Brosna 0-6
After a slow enough start St. Senans made light work of a disappointing Knock/Brosna side played at Duagh on Monday August 25th and
by virtue of their impressive victory they will now take on Beale in an
eagerly
awaited final. Victory was no more than they deserved for the
persistence and superiority they enjoyed for long periods. The Halfway
boys held key players in many departments but none more so than Kerry
minor panellists Eoin O Connell who dominated the midfield are and got
great support from Adrian O Mahony. In a fast moving attack the ace in
the pack was certainly David Behan scorer of 1-5, while Cathal Kennelly
also chipped in with 6pts. Their rearguard and keeper stood firm at all
times with each contributing to this latest win. For Knock/Brosna who
failed to get into their stride this time round had Timmy Finnegan,
Micheal Shine, Darragh Horan, Patrick Moriarty, Eamon Prenderville and
Maurice O Keeffe doing their best to stem the tide. The game opened
with Knock/Brosna quick into the attack and after just 4mts led 2pts
without reply with Patrick Moriarty and a huge effort from Eamon
Prenderville on target. However it wasnât long before David
Behan was to show his class when he pointed from an acute angle to open
his sides account after 6mts. the combination side at this stage seemed
to have the better of the exchanges but in fairness their defence was
on top of their game denying Senans of early scores but were also off
target when what looked like easy scoring opportunities were presented.
Midfielder Timmy Finnegan, Knock/Brosna hit a screamer only to see his
goal bound effort come back off the upright. Senans began to settle even
though they were finding scores hard to come-by but quick breaks out of
defence say Cathal Kennelly kick two points that say his side now go in
front and a lead they were never going to relinquish. Both David Behan
and Cathal Kennelly were causing endless problems for their markers and a
goal set up by David Behan and Colin Brown billowed the net in the 27th minute.
Eamon Prenderville had the last score of the half but it
was the combination side who led by 1-7 to 0-4 at the break. On
resumption and as they did in the opening half played well for the
opening quarter but again found it difficult to put scores on the board.
Knock/Brosna made a few alterations to their game with Eamon
Prenderville moving into attack and for a while seemed to work but once
Senans got into their stride again there was only one team in it. In
fairness to the combination side did have their share of the play but
they were always struggling to keep up with the pace of the game. A
David Behan goal in the 12thminute put this game beyond
Knock/Brosna and as the game petered out further Senans points was to
give them a deserved win. Teams and scorers; St. Senans, Darragh
