Scór na bPáistí

In total 189 children took part in the Lee Strand  Scór na bPáistí County Finals in The Tintéan Theatre Ballybunon on Sunday last. The fabulous venue vibrated with the excitement and energy brought by all the participants who all attend Primary school. All the children were a credit to their clubs, parents and mentors and were a joy to watch all day.

Donal Daly Kerry  Games Manager presented Coiste Scór Chiarraí with a fabulous Coaching Kit as a prize. This prize was raffled in a confined draw among all the participants on the day. The winner was Alison Moynihan from Kilcummin: This prize will be presented to Scoil Átha na mBláth, Killarney  during the week when the local GDA Vince Cooper  will call to the school and present the prize.

Áine Ní Shiocháin was an excellent Bean an Tí and ensured the whole day went on without a glitch.

Jackie Walsh Vice Chairman of Scór thanked everyone who was involved during the day. He especially thanked Lee Strand for sponsoring the competition, the Tintéan Theatre for hosting the days activities, the judges, Donal Daly from Kerry Coaching & Games  and Coiste Scór Chiarraí especially Anita English our former Runaí who did Trojan work on the day.

Each and every child performed to the best of their ability and the overall show was electric. The competent Judges on the day had the tough job of picking a winner and runner up. The day got off to an early start with the Quiz opening the proceedings and at the end of a titanic battle it was Tuosist who were crowned winners. However there was a tie for second place between Na Gaeil and Kilcummin with the latter taking second spot. It was a special day for the Valentia Club representing the South Kerry Football Board when they scooped the Ballad Group and came second in the Instrumental Music and to add to a memorable occasion for the Club their Scor Officer John Daly accepted the Siobhain Cotter Memorial Shield for the best overall Club on the day. The Figure Dancing went to Glenflesk with Causeway as runners up while the County Champions in Set Dancing went to Kilcummin with Currow claiming second place. In the Novelty Act category it was Na Gaeil Club who  came in first place with Fossa in close contention in second. The National Scór Committee has this week issued the new rule book for Scór competitions.
The important changes to note
1. The new category called Léiriú will replace the Novelty act. Groups are still encouraged to write their own scripts with elements of live music, dance and comedy. The biggest difference between Léiriú and the Novelty is that Comórtas Léiriú must depict an event or events from the history or mythology of Ireland or the history or mythology of the country of birth/origin of member(s) of the
cast.
2. The categories of Recitation, Léiriú, Solo singing and Ballad may include pieces based on Irish history and folklore or on the history and folklore of the country of birth/origin of the competitor.
3. The quiz will continue to be organised by Scór but will be held on a different night. It will be a table quiz with 10 rounds of 10 questions. There will be a county final with each winner from the 32 counties participating in the All Ireland final. This will be held on the eve of the All Ireland Scór Finals. The categories for the 10 rounds are
1) Gaelic and Ladies Football
2) Hurling and Camogie
3) Babhta amháin as Gaeilge ar imeachtaíChumann Lúthchleas Gael.
Freagraí as Gaeilge amháin
4) Irish History
5) World History
6) Irish Geography
7) Irish Current Affairs
