Bernard O Callaghan Senior Football Championship 2019Sponsored by Mc Munns Ballybunion
Round 1 Games

Desmonds 1.13 v Emmet 1.10
Report by Sean Moriarty
Castleisland Desmonds hosted Listowel Emmets in this Round 1 Clash in the Bernard O' Callaghan Memorial North Kerry Championship on Sunday last, November 3rd. Given the rainfall in the preceding 48hrs the pitch was in remarkable shape and with conditions dry, the standard of football was very good. The home side had a moderate breeze to their backs in the first half and opened the scoring with a free from Cian o' Connor.David Keane replied from play for Emmets before Desmonds captain, Brian Leonard restored the home side's advantage. Cormuc Mulvihill replied for Emmets, Graham O' Connor pointed for Desmonds, which Sam Tarrant cancelled out from a free to leave the scores tied at 3pts a piece at the end of the first quarter.Desmonds enjoyed a period of dominance and scored 3pts in as many minutes.all from frees-2pts from Cian O' Connor and one from Cian Hickey O' Connor. Emmets however were on top for the remainder of the half, scoring four unanswered points through Sean keane,David Keane and a brace from Sam Tarrant to leave the half-time reading Desmonds  0-06  Emmets  0-07.The second half saw the wind almost die completely and it was Desmonds who got off to a great start, with a super move all the way up the field, finished to the net by Cian Hickey O' Connor. David Keane, who was trying very hard all day, scored his 3rd point from play for Emmets but Desmonds were now taking a grip on matters in the middle third. Tomas Lynch from play, goalkeeper Stephen Bartlett from a 45" and a free stretched Desmonds lead to 4pts. Sam Tarrant again pointed a free for Emmets, but they then sufferred two major blows losing Micheal Kennedy to a red card and Niall Collins shortly after to a black card. Desmonds proceeded to score four unanswered points through Cian O' Connor, two from Cian Hickey O' Connor and a brilliant score from the outstanding Luka Brosnan, to put Desmonds 7pts to the good with 9mins to play. Emmets made several changes, including the introduction of veteran, Noel Kennelly. Sam Tarrant pointed a free and when Noel Kennelly netted with minutes to play there was only 3pts in it. Emmets, to their credit, fought to the end for their Championship lives and threw everything at Desmonds but their defence stood firm and they didn't concede again, and when referee Eamon Moran blew for full-time the final score read  Desmonds  1-13  Emmets  1-10. Desmonds now meet Ballyduff in the Quarter-Final on Sunday 17th November. There was a supporter taken ill at the game, dealt with very well by the Castleisland Desmonds Club-there was a doctor at the scene and the emergency services arrived quickly so we hope all is well.CASTLEISLAND DESMONDS: 1) Stephen Bartlett(0-02) 2) Gearoid Leonard 3) Barry Lynch 4) Cian Mangan 5) Luka brosnan(0-01) 6) Brian Leonard(C) (0-01) 7) Maurice Hickey 8) Ethan Reidy 9) Cian W O' Connor(0-04) 10) Adam Donoghue 11) Sean Lynch 12) Adam O' Donoghue 13) Graham O' Connor(0-01) 14) Tomas Lynch(0-01) 15) Cian Hickey O' Connor(1-04) 19) Stan Divane for Gearoid Leonard 18) Pat Fitzgerald for Ethan ReidyLISTOWEL EMMETS: 1) Shane Quinn 2) Micheal Kennedy 3) Niall Collins 4) Tom Melvin 5) Ciaran Pierse 6) Eddie Browne 7) Robert Smith 8) Tom McCarthy(C) 9) Joe Joe Grimes 10) Ger McCarthy 11) Cormuc Mulvihill(0-01) 12) Darragh Leahy 13) Sam Tarrant(0-05) 14) Sean Keane(0-01) 15) David Keane(0-03) 18) Jamie McVeigh for Cormuc Mulvihill 19) Maurice Whelan for Niall Collins(Black) 24) Noel Kennelly(1-00) for Robert Smith 22) Fergal Wall for David KeaneREFEREE: Eamon Moran Ballydonoghue.

Knocknagoshel 0.09 v Ballydonoghue 0.11
Report by Mairead O Sullivan
The last of the first round games played in Knocknagoshel on Sunday last, seen a rejuvenated Knocknagoshel side show gut and grit to put a serious challenge in against one of the competition favorites to win Ballydonoghue.  It was Ballydonoghue who were first on the Board with a point from Stephen Foley in the first minute.  But a short time later it was Knocknagoshel free taker Edmond Walsh who equalized from an awarded free. The play went from end to end with both sets of backs overturning the ball when taken into contact.  But the deadlock was broken with a fasted moved ball up the pitch for Knocknagoshels wing back John O Keeffe to round back the years splitting the post to a cheer from the stand, game on. With Ballydongohue in attack and a foul committed it was corner forward Jack Foley Ballydonoghue who converted in the 10th minute to bring the teams level for the first time, again Foley with a well moved ball split the posts from play a minute later to put Ballydongohue ahead by the narrowest of margins. Knocknagoshels corner forward David O'Donoghue equalized for the second time in the 15th minute, with nothing between these teams, it was going to take something special, but what cost Knocknagoshel was a bit of indiscipline for the last quarter of the half were from the 17th minute until the 33rd Ballydongohues four points all came from free's taken by Paul Kennelly and Jack Foley. Knocknagoshels last score of the half came in the 30th minute from Edmond Walsh to bring the half time score to Ballydonoghue 0.07 v Knocknagoshels 0.04.

Second half and a very determined Knocknagoshel took this game by the scruff of the neck and sensed that maybe there was a surprise on the cards, for the first 10 opening minutes Knocknagoshel owned the ball, but rushed their scoring chances and made the wrong decisions resulting in wasted opportunities.  Edmond Walsh however did convert two awarded frees to close the gap to just a single point, before Ballydonoghue responded with a well kicked point from Paul Kennelly in the 13th minute, in quick reply the gap was closed again to a single point in the 15th minute when wing froward Dan Roache split the posts.  But in the 18th minute Dan Roache seen a second yellow and left the pitch to the disappointment of the  Knocknagoshel supporters, everyone felt that it was now going to be an uphill struggle for Knocknagoshel in what was a very tight game.  But inspiration came from center back Michael Walsh Knocknagoshel who a minute later kicked a beauty of a point to level the sides with 10 minutes left on the clock.  But with a man down and Ballydonoghue sensing that now it was time to push on, came in waves of attack to put pressure on Knocknagoshel and it was their ever reliable Paul Kennelly who pointed in the 22nd minute to bring his side up a point, but with a combination play by the Walsh brothers finished by Edmond Walsh to level matters again.  Ballydonoghue seemed to struggle with  their extra man and it seemed at times that both teams had a full compliment of players on the pitch.  But with the clock now down to 3 minutes of normal time it was center back for Ballydonoghue Michéal Foley who put his side up a point, the clock had turned red and a rushed shoot at the uprights by the ever industrious Michael Walsh for Knocknagoshel went wide.  The kicked out and moved fast with the clock now a minute into extra time and it was corner forward Jack Foley who secured the game for Ballydongohue to come away with a win on a scoreline of Ballydonoghue 0.11 v Knocknagoshel 0.09

Coiste-na-nOg

Mc Elligotts Oil Asdee U16 Championship Final

Report by Sean Moriarty

BALLYDUFF  4-09    FINUGE  3--11

The final game in the 2019  Coiste-na-nOg calendar was played on Sunday last, 27th Oct. in Coolard. It followed after the Tommy Madden Memorial Final and all those who waited on were rewarded with a match, whose outcome was in the balance right to the final whistle. The game was played on a 13-a-side basis and it was Finuge, through Keltyn Molloy who opened the scoring from a free in the 3rd min. Molloy was to be the only Finuge player to raise a white flag in the opening half, 5 times in all and all from frees. The industrious Eoghan Stack did goal for Finuge in the 26th min, a score they badly needed as they were in arrears by 8pts at that point. The talented Adam Segal had 1-01 to his name and points from Aodhan Curley(2),Kieran O' Carroll(2),Martin Brosnan Mannix along with a goal by Oisin O' Connor were responsible for Ballyduff's scores to this point. Finuge needed half-time to re-organize themselves but before it arrived, the ever dangerous Kieran O' Carroll scored a great goal for Ballyduff in injury time to leave the score at the small whistle  Ballyduff 3-06  Finuge  1-05

The interval galvanized Finuge and they were a different team in the second half. Keltyn Molloy pointed a free in the 2nd min which was cancelled out by a brilliant point from Anthony Kavanagh in the 4th min. Ballyduff would not score again until the 26th min and it was all Finuge ,helped no doubt by the loss of Adam Segal,Ballyduff, to a red card, in the interim. Christen Griffin pointed in the 6th min and Eoghan Stack bagged his second goal in the 8th min. Darren O' Brien kicked three points from play in as many minutes to level matters and when goalkeeper Kieran Mackessy's 45'' deceived all to go straight to the net in the 20th minute, Finuge were 3pts ahead with 10mins to play. Ballyduff, a man down, had a huge task on their hands at this point but they fought to a man and piled huge pressure on the Finuge defence. Finuge withstood gamely until a technical foul in the small square saw referee Eamon Moran point to the spot, and Martin Brosnan Mannix blasted to the net to level things again. Finuge pointed through Keltyn Molloy and Anthony Kavanagh equalized and we were in injury time now. The whole hearted Martin Brosnan Mannix scored an inspirational point in the 32nd min and while Eamon Moran played a further 3 mins of injury time, Finuge couldn't find the score to salvage the game so the final scoreline read  Ballyduff  4-09  Finuge  3-11. It was an excellent game of football, played to a high standard and well refereed by Eamon Moran, Ballydonoghue. Ballyduff captain, Adam Farrell accepted the trophy from Sean Moriarty, NKB,who thanked McElligott Oils, Asdee for their sponsorship, Ballydonoghue Club for their excellent facility and referee Eamon Moran and his officials. It brought to a close a very successful year for  Coiste-na-nOg and thanks to all for their co-operation with the smooth running of our competitions in 2019 and we look forward to doing it all again in 2020.
