North Kerry U21 Final 2015

Knocknagoshel was the venue for the long awaited 2015 North Kerry U21 championship final. With conditions wet, sod heavy and a strong breeze blowing across the pitch scores, especially from play, were going to be hard to come by and so it proved. The Tarbert/Moyvane combination went in two points to the good at the short whistle on a scoreline of 1-2 to 0-3. The goal coming from wing forward Shane O Connor after a high hopeful ball into the Brosna/Knock square broke kindly to him and he duly dispatched.

The second half saw Brosna/Knock pick up the tempo notably with Kieran o Donnell finding himself much more prominent. It didn’t take long for Brosna/Knock to draw level with Adam Barry flawless from frees. The rest of the second half was tit for tat until Gerard Nash pointed soccer style with his trusty right boot. It seemed like Brosna/Knock would hold out only for Moyvane/Tarbert to equalise at the death with an excellently struck free kick from the Tarbert/Moyvane no.10. Referee Ger D Carrol blew the final whistle leaving both sides with an extra 20 minutes of football to prepare for.

Extra Time:

With conditions deteriorating it was a credit to both sides to continue to serve up a competitive and exciting encounter.  The decisive score of the game coming in the first half of Extra Time with Brosna/Knock awarded a penalty for a ball being picked off the ground in the square.  Adam Barry stepped up.  Adam Barry scored. This score putting them 4 points to the good. From here on out Brosna/Knock were holding out for the win. Tarbert/Moyvane threw the kitchen sink at them but to no avail as they held out for a fourth North Kerry U21 championship title in six years.

With conditions miserable for football there were some excellent performances on both sides with Tarbert/Moyvane wing forward Shane o Connor kicking some great scores from placed balls along with his first half goal.

For the victors Shane Fitzmaurice was magnificent at full back defying all comers. Kieran Horan at centre back was excellent all through with an all action display from start to finish. Conor Sheehan was at his uncompromising best at wing back. Timmy Finnegan and Mike Walsh putting in excellent displays in the middle of the park along with a half forward line that worked hard and showed their quality all through, but when picking a man of the match it’s hard to look past Adam Barry, truly playing a captain’s part finishing with a personal tally of 1-7 on his way to collecting a fourth NK U21 winners medal.
