Finuge GAA Notes   19/05/2014

North Kerry Div 4 League Final:
The Finuge Juniors captured the 2014 North Kerry Division 4 title with a well deserved victory over neighbours St. Senans last Tuesday night, on a score line of Finuge 2-11 St. Senans 1-09.
The game played in Tarbert was played at a great pace throughout and both teams entertained the travelling fans with some fantastic scoring and build up play.
Finuge lead at half time on a score line of 1-04 to 0-06, the Finuge goal coming from the boot of Gary Hogan who is becoming som...ewhat of a dead ball specialist; he gave the Senans keeper Tom Stack no chance with a flashing drive to the net.
The first ten minutes of the second half was all Senans who drew level and went a point up, but then Finuge grabbed hold of the midfield with the sublime Ian McAullife plucking ball after ball clear from the sky... Darragh Shanahan and John Buckley began to run at the Senans defence and with Darren O’ Sullivan and especially the aforementioned Gary Hogan on fire, Finuge began to pull ahead. Ger Stackpoole struck for a brilliantly taken goal and from there on even though in fairness to Senans who never gave up, the result always looked like a win for our boys. This was a great win for the Juniors who have been a fantastic bunch all year and a very well deserved win indeed. Every player who togged out on the night played their part and did the Club proud. Well done lads and here’s hoping for a good run in the North Kerry Championship.

Finuge 1-08 Listowel Emmets 0-08

There was tough competition in the County League tonight as Finuge minus a few key players took on their neighbours Listowel Emmets in Round 5 of the Division One Senior Football League at James O Sullivan Park, Finuge.
Listowel opened the scoring with their 1st point in the 3rd Minute of the game. Finuge's first point did not come until the 8th minute when Darragh Shanahan put the ball over the cross bar for a point to settle the nerves. Listowel gained 2 more points and this was followed by 2 po...ints for Finuge which were taken from frees by Fergus Fitzmaurice. These valuable points allowed Finuge to level the game in the 15th Minute. The next point came from Ricky Heffernan which brought the teams to Finuge 0.4 points Listowel Emmets 0.3 at Half Time.
Finuge came on strong after the interval and scored another point from a free in the 31st minute of the game. Listowel followed suit with 2 points one from a free and one from play which leveled the game in the 38th Minute. A goal from Ricky Heffernan in the 42nd minute gave Finuge the advantage that they were waiting for and drove both Finuge and Listowel to fight for each breaking ball to maximise their full potential. Both Finuge and Listowel gained an additional point each from frees which left the scoreboard now at Finuge 1.06 to Listowel 0.6. A Beautiful point from play by Paudie Galvin and Rickey Heffernan gave Finuge the lead again these points again were closely matched by 2 points from Listowel. These points altered the score line of Finuge 1.08 to Listowel's 0.8 points in the dying minutes of the game. However, this lead did not allow Fingue to relax as Listowel came back fighting in the last few minutes. Great defence from Finuge's backs and a goal save from Cillian Fitzmaurice in the last minute secured Finuge's win in this Round.
A speedy recovery is wished to Conor Fitzmaurice who picked up an injury early in the first half.  We're also looking forward to John Griffin, Maurice Corridan & Regi Galvin re-joining the panel after injury and County commitments.

Billy Stack
Finuge GAA Cub would like to extend its sincere sympathies to the family of the late Billy Stack, the Village Lixnaw on his passing. Most if not all past and present players, members and supporters of Finuge GAA Club, will have at some stage in their life encountered Billy, who was a gentleman. He always enquired as to how a game went, who played well and could trace a young players name back the line to a grandparent etc who also played football or hurling. His humour, sincerity and kindness will be missed by all and our prayers and thoughts are with his family. RIP

Church Gate Collection:  many thanks to all who contributed to our Church Gate Collection over the weekend and especially those who helped out.
Night At The Dogs: best wishes to our sister Club, Lixnaw GAA who hold their Night At the Dogs this coming Saturday night, every success folks and here's hoping for a fine night weather wise and plenty fun.
