Beale Gaa Notes   18/07/2022

Beale seniors secured a crucial victory in the relegation playoff over Scartaglin on Sunday. A blend of youth and experienced saved the day and kept us in Division 4. Stretched for numbers, we had to call on some former players to come out of 'retirement' for this vital game and, true to character, they did not disappoint.

Thanks to their brave efforts and that of their teammates, we evaded relegation and contest Division 4 of the County League again next year. Scartaglin had the slight edge in the first quarter but when they hit the post from the penalty spot, our hopes were raised, and the teams went in at the interval level on five points apiece.

While we drove on from there to lead by 1-7 to 0-6 going into the final quarter, our opponents brought us back to level. Great credit is due to the players who worked hard in exceptionally warm, sunny conditions. It was nip and tuck in the final quarter as the teams levelled twice and a last-minute point sent us on our way. Victory was ours by the slimmest of margins, 1-8 to 1-7.

Beale lined out as: Seán Dee, Jack O'Sullivan, John Griffin, Joe Finch, Daithí Toomey, Jeremy King, Diarmuid O'Mahony, Phillie Blake, Pádraig Murphy, Conor Toomey, James McMahon, Neilus Mulvihill, Rory Mulvihill and Barry O'Mahony. Substitutes: Daniel Hayes for Daithí Toomey (inj), Paul Collins for Rory Mulvihill, Tommy O'Neill, John Blake, John M Horgan, Wayne Jones, Philip Hornyak and Podge Holly.

We travel to Tarbert for the opening match of Group 3 of the County Junior Club Championship on Sunday, July 31st. Throw in is at 2.30. The other teams in this group are Asdee and Firies.

Beale juniors are scheduled to play Clounmacon on Tuesday evening in Ballybunion at 7.30 and Moyvane on Thursday evening in Moyvane at 7.30 in Division 4A of the North Kerry League. We await details of our postponed game against Tarbert.

North Kerry U-21s are through to the final of the County Championship, following a great win over Kenmare District in the semi-final. We look forward to a thrilling encounter when North Kerry take on East Kerry in the final on Wednesday, July 27th. Best of luck to Robert Stack and Diarmuid O’Mahony and their teammates.

The winning numbers drawn in this week’s Beale Lotto on Monday night were 21, 27, 29 and 31. There was no jackpot winner and one Match-3 winner, Ian Madden, who wins €100.

Next week’s jackpot is €1,250. The draw takes place in The Exchange Bar on Monday at 9 o’clock. A huge ‘míle buíochas’ to everyone who supports and promotes the Beale Lotto.

Congratulations to Kenneth Mannix and his bride, Katie, who tied the knot last Friday. Kenneth is a former player and actively involved in training of teams at many levels in the club. He is a former minor manager and currently trains under-age teams. Beale GAA wish Kenneth and Katie many years of love, health and happiness.
