Beale Gaa Notes   24/10/2022

Beale seniors succumbed to the challenge of Kilgarvan in the final of the County Novice Championship last Saturday in Listry. After a fairly evenly balanced first quarter, we found ourselves trailing by 1-6 to 0-2. We hit back and were well in contention at half time, just two points adrift, have scored 1-2 without reply. A great move ended in the back of the net in the 25th minute and we added two further points, sending us in at the interval in the driving seat. Half time score was 1-4 to 1-6.

However, we failed to drive on and Kilgarvan turned the game, kicking three unanswered points in the changeover. The writing was on the wall for us and we couldn’t stem the tide as a mistake from a kickout gave Kilgarvan an opportune goal. Our opponents dominated during the second half which saw them go eight points ahead. While we tried to peg them back, it never looked like we would turn the game around. We ended the game with fourteen players, following two yellow cards. The final score was not in our favour, 2-14 to 1-9.

Beale lined out as: Seán Dee, Joe Finch, Jeremy King, John Griffin, Fionnán Toomey, Shane Joy, Daithí Toomey, Neilus Mulvihill, Diarmuid O’Mahony, Conor Toomey, Philly Blake (0-1), Barry O’Neill (1-0), Ian Mannix (0-1), Robert Stack and Ger O’Gorman (0-3(f). Substitutes: Darragh Buckley (0-3(2f) for Ger O’Gorman, Podge Holly (0-1) for Daithí Toomey, Bernard O’Callaghan for Barry O’Neill, Seán Maloney for Rory Mulvihill for Ian Mannix, Tommy O’Neill, Tom Joy, Jack O’Sullivan, Andrew O’Connor and Philip Hornyak.
