Beale GAA   12/10/2020

A great traditional link with Beale GAA Club has come to an end with the closure of Horgan’s Drapery. A family steeped in Beale GAA, the link has spanned four generations. John was very much to the fore of local football in the sixties.

Niall followed in his father’s footsteps. Known for his prowess on the playing field, he was inspirational at under-age level and went onto to spend many years at the helm of the club. Together, with his wife, Mary, he ran the drapery shop until his untimely death in 2015. Their sons John, Brian and Ogie donned the green and red with distinction for many years and John’s daughters continue the long Beale tradition.

The shop was the base for every player for their GAA gear, football boots and footballs. After many years, Mary has made the decision to close the doors and take a well-earned rest. Beale GAA Club wishes Mary many happy, healthy and enjoyable years of retirement. Comhgairdeas, a Mháire, agus gach dea-ghuí dhuit.

Regrettably, club matches have been suspended until further notice. However, training may continue, according to the health guidelines outlined for the relevant levels in the National Framework for Living with Covid. We are glad to report that all under-age competitions and training, for both boys and girls, have been completed for this year. We look forward to seeing our young players back in action in the springtime.

The focus now turns to the North Kerry Championship for minors, juniors, seniors and ladies’ seniors.  Beale seniors have been drawn against Desmonds in the semi-final. The pause button has been hit until Kerry complete their run in the All-Ireland.

Beale minors will compete Division 1A of the the North Kerry Jotty Holly Memorial Minor Championship (under-19). Our opening round game had been scheduled for Monday, 26th October, against Knocknagoshel/Brosna at 1 o’clock in Duagh. The other teams in Division 1A are Castleisland Desmonds and the combination side, Ballydonoghue/Ballylongford/Asdee/Clounmacon.

Beale juniors contest the quarter final of the North Kerry Kieran Corridan Memorial Intermediate Cup. This game had been scheduled for Saturday, 24th October, at 3.30pm against St Senans in Coolard. Our ladies seniors are scheduled to play Kerins O’Rahilly’s in the North Kerry Championship Shield final. Our understanding is that the game will not be played until 2021. Training has been suspended for the immediate future.

Congrats to former Beale senior player, Andy O’Connell, and Carolyn Philips who recently tied the knot. Andy was an ace player with the senior squad until he relocated to Wexford a few years ago. A family steeped in all things Beale GAA, Andy and his brother and sisters donned the green and red at all levels from a very young age. Wishing Mr and Mrs O’Connell a future filled with love, health and happiness.
