Beale minors opened their account in Division 4 of the County League, with a win over St Senans in Ballybunion last Wednesday. Little separated the teams on the field of play and there was just two points between them at the short whistle. A penalty for each team raised the green flag. While we were under pressure in the last quarter, we found the net again and edged ahead as the clock ticked away. Possession was vital and the final kick ended up in the net, giving us a four-point cushion as the final whistle sounded, 4-7 to 3-6.

Beale lined out as Aaron Buckley, Conor Hennessy, Darragh Kissane, Eamon Lawlor, Liam Byrant, Conor Toomey, Andrew O'Connor, Jack O'Sullivan, Bernard O'Callaghan, Cathal Farrell, Eric Daly, Barry O’Neill, Philip Byrnes, Luke O'Donovan and Paddy O'Rourke. Substitutes, Mark Hennessy for Philip Byrnes, Diarmuid O’Mahony for Andrew O'Connor, Darragh Hanrahan and Daithí Toomey.

Our game against Annauscal/Lispole has been postponed. On Saturday, March 9th, we host Ardfert in Páirc de Staic at 4 o’clock. Other teams in this division are Currow, and Fossa.

Beale seniors came up short against North Kerry champions, St Senans, in Ballybunion on Sunday, in the North Kerry League, Division 1. Conceding two goals in the opening ten minutes put us on the back foot and when St Senans found the net again it looked like the writing was on the wall for us. However, we popped over points and were four points adrift at the interval. Neither sides really took advantage of the strong wind. St Senans ran out winners on a score line of 3-9 to 0-9. Our last North Kerry League game is against Tarbert on Sunday in Tarbert. Throw in at noon.

Beale seniors begin our County League, Division 5, campaign on Sunday week when we travel to Ballyduff. The last time these two teams met, we lost out in the North Kerry Championship. We will be seeking to balance the books and get the league off on the right foot. Our second game will be on March 24th, when we host Sneem-Derrynane in Ballybunion. In May, we play Tousist and Kenmare Shamrocks B. Other teams in Group A include Scartaglin, Dingle B, Kerins O‘Rahullys B, Miltown-Castlemaine B and Dr Crokes C.

We contest Group 2 of the County Junior Club Championship. We travel to Renard for our first game at the end of March. Asdee and Moyvane contest this group too.  Our final Get Ballybunion Walking walk takes place this Thursday evening. Over 150 people have signed up for our weekly walk, catching up with family and friends while traversing the streets and beach of Ballybunion. Join us for our final hurrah on Thursday for another healthy walk and fresh air. We meet at Páirc de Staic, Sandhill Road, to sign in at 6.40. Walk starts at 7 o’clock. Ensure you have proper walking shoes and a hi-viz jacket. In the interest of safety, we regret dogs are not allowed. See you there!

The Gaelic football community was saddened to hear of the death of Billy Murphy, RIP, last weekend. An ace corner forward, Billy wore the club colours through three decades. Starting with Ballybunion in the 1950s at a young age, Billy played at all age groups with Ballybunion and St Patrick’s through the 1960s and early 1970s and was well known for his sharp scoring abilities. The football tradition is carried on today by his grand-nephews, Paul Collins, Philly and John Blake, Philip Hornyak and Ian Blake. Beale GAA extend sympathies to the family of Billy Murphy.
