John B Keane League

The 15th Annual John B Keane League kicked off on Monday evening last in a flurry of excitement, nerves and sun burn. As ever Frank Sheehy Park was a hive of activity as the four teams in the Senior John B Keane League took to the field. The Boro captained by Robbie Scanlan and Anne Browne met with the mighty Ghleann skippered by Blake Finnucane who unfortunately suffered badly from the weekends tropical temperatures and Edel Dillane. This was a keenly fought game with Adam Heffernan and Robbie Scanlan steeling a march of their counterparts with some fine scores along with two lovely points from Tommy Enright. As the half progressed the girls aided by a strong attack from Aoife Sweeney and Rachel Lynch popped over two lovely scores, Ajay Barrett and Aodan O’Connell traded points for the Ghleann but some tenacious defending from Ben McElligott and Jayden Chute kept the ball in the Boro half of the field. Edel Dillane got the better of the boys in the middle of the park but again some good defending by the Boro’s Niamh Shanahan, Sinead Lyons and Anne Browne saw Rachel Lynch put over a great point from play. As the whistle blew the Boro emerged victorious and also gained a bonus point and have raced into an early one point lead in the league table.

The second game of the evening saw the Ashes win out a very tough test against The Rural Rangers captained by Emilie Browne and Patrick McCormack. The Ashes led from the front by captains Caoimhe Lynch and Patrick McCormack, with Caoimhe in particular linking well with Eoghan Hudson and Daniel Shine to pick off some fine scores. The Ashes didn’t have it all their own way Rian Brennan and Emilie Browne fought hard throughout aided by the industrious Timmy Kennelly but failed to connect with scores. It will all make for a very interesting evening next Monday night as The Boro meet The Rural Rangers and The Ashes take on An Ghleann at 6.45pm in the sportsfield. We hope to see you all there!
