NORTH  KERRY  SENIOR  CHAMPIONSHIP.    Asdee  2-4  ListowelEmmets  1-15, Asdee Senior footballersmay be out of this years McMunns Bar and Restaurant, Ballybunion. Sponsored Bernard O CallaghanMemorial North Kerry Senior Football Championship but they can be reallysatisfied with their performance that had the pre match favourites very happyto hear the sound of the final whistle. Level at half time and at the end ofthe third quarter just 3 points adrift after squandering some glorious scoringopportunities; but the slicker Emmets side took advantage of some poor markingand kicked 4 unanswered points in injury time to seal a hard earned butprobably just about deserved victory after what was a very well contestedencounter. Played at Frank Sheehy Park in rather difficult weather conditionsit was the home side who were first on the attack in the opening minute whenShane Quinn who had to retire injured midway through the second half blazedwide from 40 meters out. Eoin Tydings who was to create danger each time he goton the ball put the ball over for the opening score of the game after 6minutes.However as play swung from end to end it was Emmets who got on thescoring act with points coming from Cormac Mulvihill and David Keane puttingthe home side in front. Back came Asdee with Mike Breen leveling up the gameafter 14 minutes. At this stage centre forward Cormac Mulvihill was winningplenty possession and his direct running had the visitors at full stretch. Theaforementioned with 2 points and Sam Tarrant had their side 5pts to 2 ptsinside the 20th minute. An injury to Asdee keeper Conor Coughlan inthe 21st minute saw him replaced by James Kelly and immediately PaulO Carroll placed Eoin Kennedy for a neat point. Sam Tarrant, Eoin Tydings, (f)and Cathal Keane exchanged points and after 28 minutes Emmets led by 7pts to4pts. Then on the stroke of the half time whistle Asdee got a lifeline after anobstruction in the goalmouth Referee Pat Sheehy deemed it was a penalty and upstepped Eoin Tydings to billow the corner of the net leaving the score at theinterval; Listowel Emmets 0-7 Asdee 1-4.On resumption the home team were quickout of blocks and points from David Keane and Niall Collins saw them hit thefront. Asdee had opportunities to level but two guilt edged chances wenta-begging. Emmets then took advantage of some poor marking and Shane Quinnplaced Bryan Sweeney who hit the net from close range; Ger McCarthy making oneof his trademark runs from the back swung over and by the 14thminute the home side had gone 1-9 to 1-4 ahead. It looked as if Emmets weregoing to pull away as they were enjoying plenty possession but Asdee had otherideas and a long delivery from midfield found Darragh Keane lurking around thesquare and with still plenty work to do rounded the keeper and hit the net inthe 18th minute. Three points dividing the sides and Asdee on a rollagain but both sides were off target as defences on both sides stood firm.Still Emmets held their nerve and as Asdee seemed to run out of steam; SamTattant in the 29th minute and a further 4 in injury time from BryanSweeney, (2) Sam Tarrant and Sean Gilbert saw Listowel Emmets safetly throughto the Semi Finals.
