Asdee GAA   12/09/2017

COUNTY LEAGUE. Asdee completed their Credit Union CountyFootball League Division 5 campaign recently with a poor result against Cordalwho after this result the East Kerry side went up as champions of the Division.Certainly in a way this wasnt all about the result but the fact of the matterbeing that Asdee had to play a 13-a-side due to a number of players been absenton the day. It hurt to say the least; but these players showed little respectfor the Management team of John Kennedy and Dan Dalton who have bent overbackwards with any requests needed and more especially they showed very littlerespect for their fellow players, Club and supporters who have coughed up atevery occasion with any Fundraising that went ahead. This is not the first timethis year its happened but more especially hopefully it will be the last.Granted players become unavailable from time to time and this is acceptable butthese recent happenings are not good enough. The Club have been struggling allyear due to numbers caused by injuries and other commitments but have alwaysfulfilled each fixture. Three wins out of 11 games in County League is not a truereflection on the way the team performed but on at least 4 other occasions wewere very unlucky not to have taken the points on offer along with been pippedfor a place in the McCarthys Insurance Brokers Senior League Division 2 semifinal play-off .However on saying all that but in fairness to the players theyare a dedicated group and are proud to wear the black and amber of the club;but these sudden bleeps will have to be curtailed if we hope to continue on theglory trail. The club as a whole are a very close unit and despite nosilverware in the trophy cabinet there is plenty hope for the future. Hopefullythis latest happening will be resolved and players will once again give 100%  aswe face into the first round of the Bernard O Callaghan Memorial SeniorFootball Championship against Knocknagoshel at Jack Walsh Park with a date ofmid October pencilled in for the first rounds.

U 14 North Kerry Championship Div 2 Semi-finalBallydonoghue 3 - 07 Asdee / Ballylongford 0 - 10 Asdee / Ballylongford U14campaign came to a disappointing close with defeat to neighbours Ballydonoghueon Thursday evening in Tarbert. The old cliché ‘goals win games’ was certainlythe case in this encounter with Balydonoghue scoring three first half goals.Asdee/Bally on the other hand had numerous goal chances throughout the game, but a combination of excellent defending, goalkeeping and poor finishing led tono green flags being raised for the combined parish team. Having beatenBallydonoghue on two previous meetings this year, confidence was high goinginto the game. However, the loss of Adam Finucane, Ethan McDonald and BobbyMcCarron from the starting line up from Monday’s final to Finuge proveddecisive on this occasion. Ballydonoghue started the brightest with a goalwithin 60 seconds. This was a lead they never gave up throughout the game anddeservedly went on to advance to the final to meet Beale. On a week of badresults starting with Kerry’s defeat to Mayo and the final loss to Finuge onMonday, the players were dejected and disappointed having felt that thechampionship was there to be claimed. On reflection, the players provided uswith some great victories throughout the year. Apart from the Finuge (4) andAnascual/Lispole games (both teams who should clearly have been in highergrades), it was a year that delivered five victories from seven beating Bealeonce, Ballydonoghue and Tarbert twice, whilst losing to Beale and Ballydonoghueon one occasion each also. Having only had a panel of 17 players, great creditis due to all players for keeping the interest going all year. With theproposed changes to the age grade structure in underage GAA for 2018, hopefullythis U14 team will develop into an even better U15 team next year.
