ASDEE G AA

COUNTY LEAGUE. Asdee were dueto play away to  Valentia on Saturdayevening last; (June 24th)  inRound 12 of the Credit Union County Football League Division 5 but due tocircumstances beyond the managements control having made plenty contact withthe club and would agree to any date for a refixture; they had to concede tothe South Kerry men. However sportsmanship in this case went out the window asthe club were in contact with Valentia in plenty time to re-arrange thisfixture for another date but im afraid it fell in deaf ears. Asdee have beenplaying senior football since the mid nineties and had never suffered theembarrassment of having to give a walk over and in fact there has been numerousoccasions when other clubs ran into a little difficulty when fielding and vicaversa and a new date was agreed on always. This is called sportsmanship. Iappreciate every club would like to finish up the table but what good is awalkover ?; its not good for the game and certainly not goods for relations. Its  a number of years ago when Valentiatravelled up to Walsh Park and had just 13 players and two under 16s who werenot allowed to play as they were underage for senior football at thatparticular time. However the game was allowed go ahead and those two ladsplayed in Valentias 1 point win. No problem there. To finish im sure down theroad if and when we play Valentia again we will hold no grudges and if in needof a favour Asdee G A A club will facilate as best they can. So the morale ofthe story is; it costs nothing to be nice.

Asdee/Bally  3-10  Tarbert 1-14  The North Kerry League Division 2  U14 League resumed in Jack Walsh Memorial Park Asdee on Monday evening last with awonderful game of football played by both teams in sun drenched conditions. Theteams were neck and neck for all of the first half with never more than a scorebetween them. Brendan Keane got the home team on the scoreboard with a brace ofpoints. Oisin Healy was quickest to react to a breaking ball to drive the ballto the back of the net. He followed up on this effort with 2 more points aswell as a lovely point by Liam Connolly on the stroke of half time. Half time:Asdee / Bally 1 - 05 Tarbert 0 - 7 Tarbert came out firing on all cylinders atthe start of the second half and quickly opened up a 4 point lead scoring 1-2on the restart. Great credit due to our boys who never threw in the towelplaying in the sweltering heat. Paddy O’Neill and Christopher O’Donoghue beganto get a hold on midfield. Brendan Keane scored a goal to put a point betweenthe sides. Asdee-Bally then dominated possession for a spell with points comingfrom Brendan Keane (2) and Patrick Mulvihill. An excellent team move resultedin a goal for Paddy O’Neill from midfield. However, Tarbert continued to pressand pick off points. Just as he did in the first half, Liam Connolly finishedoff the scoring with a well taken point. With a dangerous lead of 2 points, thegame was hanging in the balance. Our defence held strong with Mikey Hannondominant at full back helping Asdee-Bally hold out for the win. John Rosshandled the game excellently and allowed for a sporting game to develop. UNDER 16s. Bally/Asdee  2-7  Tarbert/Moyvane 4-17.  Our Under 16 footballers got off to a bad start totheir County League Division 7 when they were defeated by a much moredetermined Moyvane/Tarbert in Round 1. In fairness due to lack of numbers theteam had to play many of the Under 14s and fair dues to them they gave it theirall even in defeat.
