RESULTS: Co. SFL Div3 Rd5 Fossa 1-11 v Ballydonoghue 1-12.

Both sides were in dire need of points here to help pull themselves clear of the very congested bottom tire of the league table. Both teams had a player apiece involved with Kerry panels. But Ballydonoghue were boosted by the availability of Jason Foley for the game and he certainly had a major influence in their success, by the narrowest of margins.

Ballydonghue started well and Eamon Walsh opened their account with a point inside the first minute. They continued to be the better side in the early period with points from Padraig Lyons, Jim Cremin and Paul Kennelly without reply from their opponents. This was soon to change when Fossa were awarded a penalty after 10mins and Tadhg O’Shea stepped up to expertly slot to the Ballydonoghue net. Seconds later the same player had the side’s level with a pointed free. Fintan Coffey then raced through from centre field to finish off a good move to put Fossa ahead. Ballydonoghue weren’t behind for long and five minutes later Padraig Lyons found the Fossa net with the cheekiest of goals from the tightness of angles.  Both sides then kicked two points apiece to leave two points between the sides at half time Fossa 1-4. Ballydonoghue 1-6.

Fintan Coffey had a point for Fossa straight from the throw in but Paul Kennelly cancelled this out soon afterwards. With twelve minutes of the second half gone two points still separated the sides 1-6 to 1-8 in Ballydonoghue’s favour. Midway through the half Fossa had a great chance to go ahead when a blistering shot from Colin Davidson that looked goal bound, was brilliantly saved and deflected over for a point by Ballydonoghue keeper Darren O’Connor. It was nip and tuck from there on in with either side unable to pull away and only a point still separated the sides deep in injury time Fossa 1-11. Ballydonoghue 1-12. In the dying seconds Fossa were awarded a 35m free but with their free taker Tadhg O’Shea red carded a few minutes earlier the shot went right of the post and wide. Final score Fossa 1-11. Ballydonoghue 1-12.
