Senior County League

Ballylongford 0-14 Churchill 0 - 13.

Ballylongford continued their good run with a hard fought away victory over Churchill in Round 4 of the County League.

Playing against a stiff breeze it was Joe McCarthy who opened the scoring with a pointed free in the first minute but it was the Ballylongford defence who were working the hardest from there on as Churchill who were well on top at midfield ran at them at every opportunity, yet despite their superiority in possession the Ballylongford defence kept them under pressure with Kenneth Tydings and Michael McEllistrim doing great work in the full back line while Matt Connor and Stephen Foley were doing likewise in front of them with Padraig O'Neill now playing as a sweeper to good effect.

Ivan Parker got Churchill on level terms with a point but again it was Ballylongford who went in front with another pointed free this time from Ciaran O'Connor in the 7th minute. This trend continued for the remainder of the half Parker and Cillian Fitzgerald adding a further four points for Churchill while Joe McCarthy and Ciaran O'Connor did likewise for Ballylongford to leave them level at five apiece at half time.

On the resumption Ballylongford were now playing with the wind but it was Cillian Fitzgerald who handled a lot of ball throughout put Churchill back in front in the 2nd minute.Ciaran O'Connor then replied with two in a row from play the second after working a short pass from a forty five putting Ballylongford back in front once again. The game ebbed and flowed throughout the half and at the 25th minute mark Ballylongford were trailing by a point when Matt Connor joined the attack from his wing back position to level the sides once again.

At this stage the game was there for the taking and as both sides missed a couple of good scoring chances it was Ciaran O'Connor who kicked over a great long range point to put Bally back in front in the 27th minute Liam McElligott added another in injury time leaving Churchill needing a goal to salvage a win.

Cillian Fitzgerald grabbed the kickout and  made another of his many runs from midfield in search of a goal for Churchill but was fouled and his resultant shot for goal went over the bar as referee Jim O'Connor blew the final whistle on the restart.

Ballylongford are at home next weekend to Tuosist.
