Knocknagoshel 1-9 Asdee 1-8

On a bitterly cold afternoon in Willie Walsh Park Knocknagoshel both sides

contributed to an entertaining and keenly contested match in the North Kerry league. Knocknagoshel started the brighter and were quick to take the game to the visitors with Niall Barrett getting on the end of two team moves to put his team into an early lead. Wing forward Mike Breen responded for Asdee with the first of his two points in this half. Michael Walsh replied with a long range point before his opposite number Darragh Keane kicked a point for the visitors. Mike Breen levelled matters with his second point but it was to be his team's last score of the half. Knocknagoshel got into their stride and reeled off four unanswered points, the first a curler from the right hand side by John O'Keeffe. Niall Barrett stepped up to take a penalty when Conor Sheehan was brought down in the square and was unfortunate to strike the butt of the post. Michael Walsh and Niall Barrett both pointed and Micheál Shine ended the half with a fine point coming forward from his half back position to leave the half time score at 0-7 to 0-3 in favour of the home team.

Asdee took the game to Knocknagoshel much better in the second half and their full forward Eoin Tydings pointed to reduce the deficit. Knocknagoshel replied with a point from David O'Donoghue who was a constant threat to Asdee's defence in this half. Further points from Mike Breen and Darragh Keane closed the gap again before David O'Donoghue rounded the Asdee keeper to slot his side's goal. With a sniff of blood Knocknagoshel poured forward but this left gaps at the back which Asdee exploited with an excellent goal from Eoin Tydings and a point from Eoin Kennedy to cut the gap to the minimum. Niall Barrett pointed a free for Knocknagoshel to open the gap to two with time ticking down. Darragh Keane pointed for Asdee to leave the final score at Knocknagoshel 1-9 to Asdee 1-8.

Fixtures;

Knocknagoshel seniors have a bye in the North Kerry league this weekend and their next match will be a trip to Moyvane on Sunday February 26th at 1.30p.m. The replay of the Corn Uí Mhuirí semi final is likely to mean this weekend's minor county league match against Skellig/Valentia/Sneem/Derrynane will go back by a week at least. We wish John Walsh well in the replay after contributing handsomely to his CBS The Green side's second drawn match against Coláiste Chríost Rí last Saturday in Ballyvourney.

Under 16's;

Knock/Brosna/Duagh got one over on their rivals and neighbours when they defeated Castleisland Desmonds in Knocknagoshel on Saturday in the Castleisland District league. This was a fine team performance with the forwards on fire throughout. The final score was 4-10 to 1-10. Their next game is an away trip to Ballymac  on Sunday 26th February at 12p.m.

Scór na bPáistí;

The finals of the Castleisland District Scór na bPáistí will be held in Knocknagoshel Community Centre on Sunday 26th February at 4p.m. This is sure to be a great occasion with the cream of young talent from the district competing. All are welcome to attend.
