Cordal v Cromane – Division 5 SFL 19/08/2017

Cordal took on Cromane in their second last game of the Division Five County League. Both teams were determined to win with Cordal looking to continue their unbeaten record and Cromane needing the win to become the third team promoted to Division Four. The game was a clash between two hardy teams and by the final whistle both sides were level. Cordal had 1-12 to Cromane’s 0-15.

The first half saw an impressive opening for the Cromane side who clocked up two points whilst kicking another wide. Cordal came onto the scene with a point in the fourth minute. Cromane seemed to hold their own in the first quarter scoring four more points before Cordal had another successful attack with a point from Philip O'Connor in the 15th minute. The second quarter wasn't Cordal's best performance by any stretch of the imagination, two scores were added by Kieran O'Donoghue and Sean Walsh keeping Cordal from falling completely behind.

Half time put Cromane on top with a six point lead at 0-10 to Cordal's 0-04.

The Cordal Seniors took a much needed morale boost from management at half time and had a fiery opening into the second half. Cordal's Philip O'Connor and Kieran O'Donoghue were first to unleash Cordal's scoring offensive, both adding valuable points in the first three minutes. Cromane's Finbar Casey knocked the ball over the bar before Cordal proved they had a drive in them when Kieran O'Donoghue scored a goal from a penalty in the sixth minute. Kieran seemed to be on top form after this scoring two consecutive points thereafter. Cordal’s Eamonn John O'Donoghue would put his team in the lead adding two points to the tally but Cromane were like rain to Irish weather, they just couldn't leave Cordal behind. The referee blew the whistle to leave two well matched teams with two level well matched scores. Cordal were 1-12 to Cromane's 0-15. Cordal could have beat the Cromane team but wides proved costly in the final minutes. Nonetheless a draw proved a victory of sorts for both sides.

The Cordal team remain unbeaten in this season's County League. Should the boys beat Asdee in their final Division Five game, they will leave as Champions, a fitting exit to Division Five as we get promoted to Division Four.
