SENIOR CO. LEAGUE DIVISION 5 - ROUND 1 - 19/3/2017 2017-03-19 15:42:00

Asdee 1-9 Ballyduff 0-5.

Ballyduff pitch was in perfect order, despite the recent atrocious weather conditions for the meeting of these two great North Kerry rivals in Round 1 of the Credit Union Co. Football League, Division 5, which also doubled up for a McCarthys Insurance Brokers League Division 2 tie.   In fairness to both sides who were very much understrength and this especially applied to the home team, but they served up a good honest encounter that
eventually say the visitors gain their first Co. League points.  In the opening half, Asdee played with the aid of a strong breeze but it disappeared completely after about ten minutes of the throw in.  Eoin Tydings inside 20 seconds and Paul O Carroll on six minutes
kicked early points, taking advantage of the wind.  John Paul Leahy and David Goulding put Ballyduff on the scoresheet, only for John Doran and Eoin Tydings to have Asdee ahead 0-4 to 0-2 after 14 minutes.  At this stage, both sides were guilty of some poor shooting as play swung from end to end.  However, Ballyduff were dealt a huge blow when Mike Breen struck for an opportunist goal in the 21st minute.  With time almost up, Evan Doyle cut the deficit with a good point and at half time it was Asdee 1-4 Ballyduff 0-3.

On resumption, play became very ragged with some poor passages of play and some of the passing left a lot to be desired.  However, in fairness, both teams were giving their all with both sides enjoying their fair share of possession, but when it mattered most Asdee were that little more clinical.  Even though Ballyduff could only muster two points in that second half coming in the 4th minute and 25th minute from Eddie Joy, (f), and David Goulding, they couldn’t be faulted for effort.  Points from Darragh Keane (3), Eoin Tydings (f) and Mike Breen killed off the game, but you can never write of Ballyduff, no matter who they have on duty and they had good performers in Evan Doyle, David Goulding, Sean Costello and to a lesser extent Eddie Joy.   For Asdee:  Martin Collins, Michael Tydings and Conor Keane excelled in defence; at midfield we struggled while in attack Eoin Tydings and Mike Breen
shone.
