SENIOR CO. LEAGUE DIVISION 5 - ROUND 5 - 10/6/2017 2017-06-10 22:02:00

Asdee 0-8 Moyvane 0-12.

Moyvane continued to hold the Indian sign over Asdee in recent competition and again on Saturday evening last in Round 5 of the Credit Union Co. League Division 5, that trend remained.  This was a good competitive encounter, once Asdee got moving after a rather poor opening twenty minutes and, in fairness, the four point winning margin by Moyvane was probably a fair result.  There were two Black Cards for Asdee: John Doran in injury time in the first half and Jack Keane with three minutes left for play, along with an injury to Paul O’Carroll at the end of the third quarter, as play was held up for a while, didn’t help the visitors cause.  Eoin Flaherty, Moyvane, received two yellows, getting his marching orders five minutes into the second half.

The game opened with the home team aided by a slight breeze and, for 24 minutes of this half, it looked as if Moyvane would just simply run away with the contest, as they controlled
matters in almost all areas of the field.  By the 21st minute they deservedly led by 0-8 to 0-1. Martin Stack listed at corner forward roamed outfield and kicked four excellent points, with one from a 45 metre free.  Colin Enright added three also from play, as Diarmuid Leahy and Joe Coulson held sway at midfield.  In fairness, Kieran Kelly did make a few runs, but each time the ball reached the Asdee attack, it was either blocked down or cleared to safety as the Moyvane rearguard were well up for the game.  However, the visitors although struggling finished the half in style and three points from Mike Breen (2) and Brian Coughlan gave them a lifeline.  In injury time, Paul O’ Carroll split the uprights to leave the half time score Moyvane 0-8, Asdee 0-5.

On resumption Asdee came out with all guns blazing and, after a number of wides, the deficit was cut to just two points when Mike Breen pointed after nine minutes.  Play swung from end to end as scores were hard to come by, with both defences on top.  Diarmuid Leahy and Colin Enright added points for Moyvane, while the impressive Sean Keane kicked  a fine point for the visitors as the margin was down to three points with four minutes remaining.  At this stage, with Asdee were coming more into attack, but when Moyvane won possession they played around to each other running down the clock.  However,
time allowed for Paul O’Carroll’s injury saw Moyvane kick further points, Colin Enright and Martin Stack, with Mike Breen finishing Asdee scoring.
