SENIOR CO. LEAGUE DIVISION 5 - ROUND 7 - 8/7/2017 2017-07-08 18:13:00

Asdee 0-12 Kilgarvan 1-17

Kilgarvan made the long trip to Walsh Park on Saturday evening last, a winning one, where they proved too much to handle for the home side.  The Kenmare District were full value
for their victory, as especially in the second half they ran the home side ragged, putting together some brilliant movement on the ball, along with kicking excellent points.  Only for the brilliance of the Asdee custodian, Conor Coughlan, the margin of victory could very well have been much bigger.  On the other hand, after a well contested opening half, Asdee
were off target with their shooting and certainly their discipline left a lot to be desired, giving away handy free,s which the Kilgarvan attack duly obliged.  The opening half saw both teams really up for it and in an action packed first 30 minutes, when the sides were level on no fewer than five times, it was end to end.  John Doran and Mike Breen had Asdee ahead by two points without reply by the fourth minute and Flor O Donoghue, Kilgarvan keeper, came to his sides rescue with a fine save.  John Mark Foley, who dictated play throughout   at midfield, got his side’s opening score and, along with Patrick O’Shea who finished the game with 1-5, levelled up the tie for the first time after 12 minutes.  It was nip and tuck from here in and points were exchanged by Eoin Kennedy, Eoin Tydings, Mike Breen and John Doran for Asdee, while John Mark Foley, Shane O Sullivan, Gearoid Fennessy, Kieran O’Sullivan and Patrick O’Shea for the visitors.  At the break, the sides were locked together at eight points apiece.

However, whoever thought we were in for more of the same in the second half were well and truly off the mark, as the visitors just ran riot and, with the very first attack inside the
opening minute, it was Patrick O’Shea who found the net.  In fairness to the home side, they tried hard to stay in the game but a much slicker Kilgarvan side, who had the legs on their opponents for the duration of this half and kicked some excellent scores with; Patrick O’Shea, Sean Godfrey, John Mark Foley and Richard O’Sullivan, with Eoin Tydings, John Doran and Matthey O’Hanlon replying for Asdee.  This was an excellent display that is all good in football skills from a youthful Kilgarvan side, who had many stars on their side.   John Mark Foley ruled midfield, Patrick O Shea, Gearoid Fennessy and Sean Godfrey in attack, while in a well drilled defence Tommy Healy, Shane O Sullivan and Flor O’Sullivan. For Asdee, Conor Coughlan, Eoin Kennedy, Eoin Tydings, Kieran Kelly and Con Carmody did well on this occasion.
